Welcome to Searcy

Searcy is a city rich in heritage and full of opportunities. With a multitude of restaurants, boutiques, shopping centers, and department stores, Searcy continues to provide a small town feel with big city opportunities. Searcy is home to manufacturing companies as well as beloved brands that got their start right here in our community. As we push forward, we are expanding our parks and community resources, revamping our sports complexes, and relocating our library. We are working together to move our city from being a good community to live in to an even better home for our current and future citizens.

There are three distinguished school districts housed in our area: Searcy Public School District, Riverview School District, and Harding Academy School District. All three offer award winning teachers and opportunities for students to excel in academics, athletics, and the arts.

Searcy is a college town, hosting Harding University since 1934. Harding is a Christian university and the largest private university in the state, bringing around 5,000 students to their campus and providing job opportunities for over 800 people, including faculty and staff. We also host a satellite campus of Arkansas State University, allowing students to stay right here in town and complete their higher education.

The Little Red River, which is known for its trout fishing and kayaking, runs alongside the city, and several parks can be found throughout including Berryhill and Yancey Parks and some that link back to the city’s heritage such as historic Spring Park and Riverside Park.

Searcy has managed to maintain its historical features while expanding to meet the needs of its citizens. It began in the 1820s as White Sulfur Springs, a health spa town with three natural springs that have since dried up. In 1837, it was named the county seat and officially renamed Searcy after Arkansas State Legislator, Richard Searcy. Another significant name in the history of Searcy is Israel Moore, one of the first prominent landowners who named the city streets after streets in Philadelphia. In Downtown Searcy, you will find the oldest functioning courthouse in the state, White County Courthouse, and one of only a few historic theaters still showing daily, the Rialto Theater. Thanks to Main Street Searcy, our downtown area has become the heart of the community with art galleries, markets, entertainment, and dining.
