City of Searcy to Host Public Meeting on Proposed Floodplain Map Changes

The City of Searcy will host a public meeting on Tuesday, July 15 from 4pm to 7pm at City Hall to inform the public about upcoming updates to the city’s floodplain maps.

This come-and-go style meeting will give residents the opportunity to view proposed changes to the Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA) within the city and ask questions about how these changes may affect their properties. City officials and representatives from Halff Associates, the national engineering firm that conducted the study and created the updated maps, will be available to provide information and answer questions.

“These new maps are based on more accurate elevation data than previous versions,” City Engineer Mark Lane said. “While some areas may shift in or out of the special flood hazard zones, the goal is to better reflect actual risk using the most current technology and data available.”

This is the third update to the floodplain maps since 1997, and the first revision initiated by the City of Searcy. Residents are encouraged to attend, especially those with properties currently in or near designated flood zones.
