Emergency Medical Response

The nature of work for the fire service has evolved for over one hundred (100) years. Part of that change entails that fire department personnel also provide EMS care to those who require assistance. Our mission and values encompass this complex service need, and the City of Searcy Fire Department responds to EMS calls as part of our daily duties to perform care at the first responder level. All personnel are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians, and these skills are indeed perishable. These calls for service enhance our capability to render first aid and provide lifesaving care, creating additional good will within the community.

Special Operations Response Team (SORT)

As the City of Searcy continues to grow, the City of Searcy Fire Department will respond to more and more situations involving some level of technical knowledge or expertise to perform rescues. The City of Searcy Fire Department has established a specially trained team that is hand chosen from fire personnel. This team trains monthly and responds to emergencies such as high angle rescue, structural collapse, swift water rescue, trench rescue and/or any incident in which technical rescue is needed.

Fire Prevention

As the City of Searcy continues to grow and develop, it is imperative that we maintain safe building and occupancy regulations. We do this through residential fire inspections, commercial fire inspections, fire pre-plans, city code enforcement, smoke alarm installations and many other services. These initiatives are performed by our Fire Inspector, ISO Administrator and on duty Fire Companies.

Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Fire Hydrants

It is imperative that the Fire Department have an adequate and reliable source of water for firefighting purposes. A great deal of emphasis is placed on the testing and maintenance of fire hydrants for that reason. The City of Searcy Fire Department does this through annual flow and pressure testing of hydrants to ensure proper working function of each hydrant.

Fire Investigation

A thorough, complete, and effective fire investigation is expected and deserved by anyone suffering the losses sustained in a fire. Fire investigations can reveal crimes, mental instabilities, and developmental issues as well as lead to meaningful fire code changes. The importance of this function cannot be understated. The responsibility for initial fire investigation lies with the Authority Having Jurisdiction. To complete a fire investigation, the department may utilize shift investigators, the State Fire Marshal or designee, any previous shift investigators now in different assignments, as well as the company officer.

Hazardous Materials Response

Searcy Fire Department personnel respond to known or suspected hazardous materials incidents at the hazardous materials technician level. The Searcy Fire Department currently has a seven county mutual aid agreement to respond available resources to known hazardous materials incidents. The City of Searcy Fire Department is equipped with Rescue 1, Mobile Emergency Decontamination Shower and a Hazmat Response Trailer which are all specifically equipped to respond to hazmat situations.

Community Risk Reduction Program

The fire service has a long history of providing programs and services implemented to reduce risk of fires. That endeavor has evolved into creating and implementing programs targeting other hazards as well. These two initiatives combined have become known as community risk reduction. The City of Searcy Fire Department recognizes our important role in the community risk reduction efforts in our City. There is a chain of events that exists between the daily lives and goings on of our citizens and visitors and their need for our services. The goal of our efforts is focused on those behaviors that result in the need for emergency services and trying to reduce or eliminate them. The City of Searcy Fire Department accomplishes this through initiatives such as fire prevention month, a smoke detector program, fire extinguisher training and other various programs.

Fire Safety House

Fire prevention and education is a core responsibility of the fire service. The fire safety house (FSH) is an important tool in our community risk reduction arsenal. Hundreds of children in the community and area have and will continue to see the benefit of this vehicle. This mobile two-story house provides educators the opportunity to present a variety of scenarios to participants at schools and public events. Educators use an established curriculum, allowing optimum usage of the features of the fire safety house. The synthetic “smoke” utilized during presentations adds a sense of realism and urgency to the event. This tool is utilized in October, during fire prevention month.

Fire Extinguisher Training

The City of Searcy Fire Department recognizes the need for public fire safety education. One area of education focused on is the understanding and use of portable fire extinguishers. While we encourage a hasty retreat from a fire situation, the proper use of the correct fire extinguisher can not only assist in the containment or extinguishment of a small fire, it can reduce risk and save lives. We offer a hands-on class of the use and need of fire extinguishers. For more information, contact Central Station: (501) 279-1066.

Child Safety Seat Program

The City of Searcy Fire Department has identified a need and taken the lead in providing the public with Child Safety Seat Technicians. This important program works to ensure that those in need of proper child safety seats are able to receive them, as well as providing education and checking existing seats for proper installation. For more information regarding the Child Safety Seat Program, contact Central Station: (501) 279-1066.

Smoke Detector Program

The City of Searcy Fire Department is dedicated to providing the citizens of Searcy the tools needed to prevent emergencies. One of the many ways we do this is through our Smoke Detector Program. This program ensures that the homeowners of Searcy are equipped with adequate smoke alarms. This is done through smoke alarm installation and function tests. These detectors are provided through various grants and are provided when made available. For more information regarding the Smoke Detector Program, contact Central Station: (501) 279-1066.
