My name is Nina Gilpin . I came to work for the Searcy Police Department in 1984. I had dispatched for another agency in the mid-70’s, so you might say I had it in my blood. I used to say we used a string and 2 cans to communicate, but really we had a black rotary dial phone and 3 phone lines. It was easier than since we only had 1 prefix then, now we have several, plus all of the cell phones now. I left the Searcy Police Department for 15 months in late 1988 to go to work for the Office of Emergency Services in Conway. But my heart was at the Searcy Police Department. When Chief Thomas was appointed Chief of Police in 1989, I came back to work and have been here ever since. I feel very comfortable here, just like home.
