Mike Jones

My name is Mike Jones and I am 43 years old.  I am married to my wife Colleen. We have two children, one of which is serving in Iraq at this time with the armed services.  Not many people in life have the opportunity to live out their childhood dreams.  By the grace of my God, I am privileged to be doing just that.  From my youth I have dreamed of being a Police Officer.  Not just any police officer, mind you, but a SEARCY Police Officer.  I have in my memory as a youngster coming to town with my family and seeing an Officer, wearing a hat in the middle of an intersection, directing traffic around an automobile accident.  Something about that incident left an indelible impression in my mind.  I had to do that too!  I have had this honor since June of 1990 and presently serve in the Patrol Division as a street shift Sergeant.

Since my employment I have accumulated hundreds of training hours in various areas of the job.  I have a degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro in Law Enforcement.  I am a certified Law Enforcement Instructor, Firearms Instructor and Range Master.  I pioneered the Bicycle Patrol and the Motorcycle Patrol.  I was selected as the Officer of the Year for '97.  As a Field Training Officer, I have trained several new Officers to the Department.  I also have made numerous visits to local schools in and around the Searcy area talking about various subjects, mainly general safety, the responsibilities of a Policeman, and about fingerprint evidence.  Policemen are known by many different names: Cops, Policemen, Law Enforcement Officer, etc.  The one I prefer is Peace Officer.  I see my responsibility of Serving and Protecting as a vital part of preserving the peace of the community.
